The North American Echinoderm Conference is excited to announce the dates and location of our 9th triennial meeting. We will be convening at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology from June 13-18 2020 in Charleston, Oregon. You can find information about registration, presenting, lodging, travel, and other details on this website. Check back often for updates as we approach the meeting dates. Friday June 12

Optional 2-day Echinoderm Transcriptomics course begins. The fee is $35 and you can register here. Space will be limited! For information on course content or IT considerations, contact Dr. Daniel Janies.

NAEC 2020 officially begins! Speaker and attendees arrive at OIMB.

Keynote address and first day of science talks at OIMB, then an attitude adjustment hour at the Charleston Marine Life Center.

Full day of science talks then a free evening to explore Charleston and Coos Bay.

Science talks and afternoon poster session at OIMB.

Closing remarks, optional field trips, and banquet with silent auction at OIMB.

End of conference. Participants depart OIMB.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT

Present Your Science

***ABSTRACT SUBMISSION HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 2020-03-31***

We are accepting abstracts of any echinoderm-focused science by researchers or students for presentation at the North American Echinoderm Conference in 2020. All who intend to submit an abstract should complete the intention form by February 15, 2020. Abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words, must conform to the submission template for consideration, and must be submitted by February 15, 2020 to echinoconf@gmail.com. Please put "2020 NAEC Abstract Submission" and your last name in the message line to facilitate tracking. Notification on the disposition of submitted abstracts will be returned to the first author electronically by March 15, 2020. Authors may be asked to make minor revisions to abstracts to allow publication in the Proceedings. No presentation will be allowed unless the final abstract has been cleared for publication in the Proceedings, and abstracts will only be published if the presentation will be given. All submissions MUST use the template, which include detailed formatting instructions. Intention form and templates can be found below.

Student talks and posters will be eligible for "Best Talk" and "Best Poster" awards.

Travel scholarships of $400, depending on need and availability, are open for students wishing to participate in NAEC 2020. Reduced registration costs are also available for scholarship recipients. Scholars must submit to present at the conference and be willing to assist for one day with conference business (registration desk, coffee breaks, event set up, etc..)

TRAVEL, LODGING, & DINING

Around Charleston and Coos Bay

 NAEC 2020 will be held in Charleston, Oregon on the beautiful Oregon Coast. See below for travel and logistics.

  • Limited housing and meal plans will be available through OIMB. Register early to ensure a spot with on-campus lodging. Otherwise, there are plenty of housing and food options around the Coos Bay area including hotels, Airbnb, vacation rentals, and restaurants. See our Costs page for a summary of current lodging options.

  • Coos Bay has a dedicated airport, but flights are limited. The next nearest airport is in Eugene, Oregon. If you are interested in taking a shuttle bus from the airport to your lodging, click the button below. For those looking for a ride share, click below.

  • The Oregon Coast is unmatched in natural beauty. We will offer opportunities to explore the immediate region with several field trips, potentially including: offshore boating trips with dredge activities, kayaking adventures, a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and plentiful tidepooling,
